Library Information

  • The City Library and the library corners are free of charge for public use.
  • We protect personal information obtained from library users.
  • Feel free to ask our staff if you have any questions.

Items in the City Library and the library corners are valuable public property. Please take good care of the items you borrow.

How to borrow items

A library card is required to borrow books and magazines.

  • Individuals who live, work, or attend school in Fujiidera City are eligible to borrow items from the City Library and the library corners

The library card

  • The library card can be used at the City Library and the library corners.
  • When applying for a library card, please provide ID so library staff can confirm your name and address. Acceptable ID include a valid health insurance card, driving permit, and/or student ID card. If you live outside Fujiidera City, but work or attend school in Fujiidera City, please provide documentation that shows your place of work or school.
  • If your library card is lost or if there are changes to your personal information such as name, address, or phone number, please contact us as soon as possible.

  • Some items cannot be taken out of the library. (The most recent issue of magazines can only be read inside the library. Older issues can be checked out.)
  • Items in the City Library and the library corners are valuable public property. Please note that you will be asked to compensate for loss or damage.
  • The compensation for DVD’s is expensive because a copyright royalty is included.

How to return or Extend Loan Period

Returning items

  • Items can be returned at the City Library and the library corners. (Your library card is not needed for returns.)
  • Please use the Return Boxes to return checked-out items.
  • Please DO NOT place CD's/ DVD's/BIG PICTURE BOOKs into the Book Return Boxes.
  • Please return items checked out from libraries outside of Fujiidera city at the Check-in Counter inside the library during business hours. Do not place items checked out from libraries outside of Fujiidera city in the Return Boxes. These are located at the west entrance of the library and in the AEON Fujiidera shopping center.

Please note: The city Library and the library corners are closed for the year-end and new-year holidays.

Extending the loan period

  • The loan period cannot be extended if the items have been reserved by someone else.
  • Please request a loan extension prior to the due date for the current loan period. The loan period can be extended for two weeks from the date the extension is requested.
  • Only one extension is allowed for each item.
  • Individuals with an online access account can extend the loan period via the library website or the user terminal inside the library.
  • You can extend the loan period by phone. Please provide your library card number and the item’s name or number.
  • You can not extend the loan period for items borrowed from libraries outside Fujiidera city.

Please return checked-out items by their due date.

  • Items cannot be checked out or reserved until overdue items are returned.
  • Reserved items cannot be checked out.
  • Reservations will be cancelled if overdue items are not returned within the pick-up period for the reserved items.
  • If you cannot return borrowed items by the due date, please extend the loan period. However, the loan period cannot be extended if the items are reserved by someone else.

Reservations

Items you cannot find can be reserved. If you cannot find the item you are looking for, please ask library staff.

  • To reserve items; please call, use the official library website, user terminal inside the libraries, or application form for reservations.
  • Up to 15 books, Kamishibai (picture story cards), magazines, comic books, and up to two CD's/ DVD's (combined total of 15 items) can be reserved.
  • The City Library will make every attempt to meet requests through the network libraries in Osaka Prefecture including neighboring cities or by purchasing the items that are not in the library collection.
  • Reservations of CD's and DVD's are limited to the City Library’s collection. Requests for the purchase of new items are not accepted.
  • The library will inform you when the reserved items are available.
  • Your library card is required when picking up reserved items. Caution! Please pick up the reserved items within the pick-up period.

Librarians can help you find what you are looking for.

  • Librarians will help you find the information you are looking for regarding books, daily life, and other subjects.                                                      
  • You can also ask the librarians questions via telephone. However, we may not be able to provide answers to questions about homework, quizzes, medical or legal issues, etc.

Benefits for online access account holders

  • Reserve items or extend the loan period via the official website or user terminals in the library.
  • Can select e-mail as a contact method to receive notifications when reserved items are available at the library. (Please register your e-mail address in advance.)
  • Check reservation and loan status of items via the official website or user terminals in the library.
  • Cancel or change reservations via the official website or user terminals in the library.

Other service

Copy service

Copies of items belonging to city libraries can be made at cost if they fall under private use allowed by the Copyright Act.
Please note that some items, including valuable materials, may not be copied.

Events

The City Library offers classes, presentations, and story-telling gatherings for children. Please check the official website, Fujiidera City Newsletter, or Library Newsletter for the most up-to-date information.

Group use

 Reading circles, nursery schools, elementary schools, junior high schools and other similar groups in Fujiidera city are allowed to borrow items as a group.

Note: The Library will be open during the period of July 21st to August 31st except for the last day of the month.

Days Closed

Mondays(The library will remain open if a national holiday falls on a Monday and be closed the next day.)

The last day of the month(The library will remain open if a Saturday or a Sunday or a national holiday falls on the last day of the month, but it will be closed on the last Friday of the month.)

New Year holidays: from December 28th until January 4th
