Tsudo-Shiroyama Mounded Tomb
Period: Late 4th century
Mounded tomb shape: Keyhole mounded tomb
Length of the mound: 210 m
Excavated artifacts: Cylindrical haniwa (earthenware funerary figure), waterfowl-shaped haniwa, bronze mirror, bronze arrowhead, comma-shaped bead, etc.
Located in the northernmost tip of the Furuichi Mounded Tomb Group, this is the oldest extra-large mounded tomb in the group.
An extra-large, chest-shaped stone coffin (kingly coffin) has been discovered.
In addition, three waterfowl-shaped haniwa (earthenware funerary figures) in the size of an actual whistling swan have been discovered, and they have been designated as national important cultural properties.
Islet Structural Remains in the Moat
Length of each side: 17 m / height from the moat bottom: 1.5 m
An islet facility has been discovered in the inner moat on the east side of Tsudo-Shiroyama Mounded Tomb.
While the ground has been scraped to form the lower tier, a mound has been constructed on the lower tier to form the upper tier.
In addition, three waterfowl-shaped haniwa (earthenware funerary figures) have been excavated here.
The largest of the three is 107 cm high and 88 cm long. This is the largest and oldest of all waterfowl-shaped haniwa discovered so far. The three haniwa have been designated as national important cultural properties.
